Here is some exciting news, and a little extra validation, for Tacoma enthusiasts. This past October 7 - 9, the Texas Auto Writers Association hosted the 23rd annual Texas Truck rodeo, in which nearly 70 TAWA journalists analyzed more than 80 trucks, SUVs, and crossovers. The vehicles were put through on- and off-road tests, and were judged based on metrics like style, fuel economy, and price.
The new 2016 Tacoma came out on top in its segment, earning the honor as the "Mid-Size Truck of Texas." Mike Sweers, Tacoma chief engineer, said “Toyota’s commitment to the new Tacoma was focused on meeting the needs of adventure-seekers on a variety of tamed and untamed surfaces.”
The new Tacoma comes with a new Atkinson Cycle engine, which boasts an increase of 42 horsepower of the previous generation. TRD models feature a new Crawl Control system which brakes and accelerates automatically, allowing the driver to focus on navigating technical terrain.
